Am I really ready?
There's been a few things that have happened to me in the last few weeks that made me question how ready I am. It's so much different when you get advice from recognizable working actors who are where you strive to be in this business. I had the pleasure of finally getting some useful information. Most people want to hear that they're so ready but I knew that some elements for me were missing. Fortunately I was already working on those things. The main thing that I noticed from speaking to these actors is how serious they are. Meaning, they understand that time is money, so you need to get in there, do the work, and leave. Which means, you have to be skillful in what you do. Seriously. When on set there's no time for you to do your 3 million actor exercises to "get in the moment". You need to have your instrument trained to just go for it. I realize that actors do not understand that. I look at dancers, musicians, athletes. They are constantly training, ready to go at any given moment. Even those at the top of their game. As actors it should be no different. Knowing where you fit in this business is very important too. I guess that would go hand in hand with knowing your type & being comfortable with that type. Things like your headshot & resume are so important. Does your headshot coincide with your type? Is your resume formatted correctly? What kind of credits are on your resume? These things that may seem so minimal, I'm learning can make such a big difference. Overall, I feel like I'm heading in the right direction, and I'm doing all of the necessary things. I'm very grateful for the people God has recently placed in my life. I know that if I have an open mind, listen, and execute what I'm being taught, I'll be able to call myself a working actor very soon. And by working I mean actually getting paid lol. Until next time: Loving Jesus, life and every opportunity. (Follow me: twitter.com/shashonelambert)
